The Effect of Remineralisation Treatments on Demineralised Dentine, an In Vitro Study

چکیده
This in vitro study evaluated the effect of commercially available remineralising products on demineralised dentine. Demineralised dentine was stored in pooled saliva or treated with Tooth Mousse, Tooth Mousse Plus, Gel-Kam or NeutraFluor 5000, for 7 days at room temperature. Dentine slices were microhardness tested, and assessed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive and Raman spectroscopy. Demineralisation decreased dentine microhardness and was increased following storage in saliva. However, Tooth Mousse and NeutraFluor 5000 treatment significantly increased (p<0.05) microhardness. SEM analyses showed that following demineralisation, dentine tubule openings were more clearly defined and treatment with saliva did not alter this surface appearance. Dentine tubules appeared to be occluded following treatment. With the exception of fluoride, few significant differences in elemental content between Tooth Mousse, Tooth Mousse Plus and NeutraFluor5000 were observed. All products significantly increased (p<0.001) fluoride levels compared with control, demineralised and saliva stored specimens. The increase in surface fluoride levels was significantly higher for Gel-Kam and NeutraFluor5000 (p<0.001). Raman spectrometry indicated that fluoride was being incorporated into apatite crystals following treatment with Tooth Mousse Plus, Neutra Fluor 5000 and Gel-Kam.

Shear Bond Strength and Remineralisation Effect of a Casein Phosphopeptide-Amorphous Calcium Phosphate-Modified Glass Ionomer Cement on Artificial “Caries-Affected” Dentine
This study investigated the effect of casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP)-modified glass ionomer cement (GIC) on shear bond strength (SBS) and remineralisation of artificial "caries-affected" dentine. Human dentine slices were demineralised and allocated to three groups: group 1, conventional GIC; group 2, CPP-ACP-modified GIC; and group 3, resin-modified GIC. The SBS wa...
متن کاملElucidating the cellular actions of demineralised dentine matrix extract on a clonal dental pulp stem cell population in orchestrating dental tissue repair
Bioactive growth factors identified within the extracellular matrix of dentine have been proposed roles in regulating the naturally inherent regenerative dentine formation seen in teeth in response to trauma and infection, which may also be harnessed for novel clinical treatments in augmenting mineralised tissue repair. This study examined the specific biological action of demineralised dentine...
متن کاملComparing the Air Abrasion Cutting Efficacy of Dentine Using a Fluoride-Containing Bioactive Glass versus an Alumina Abrasive: An In Vitro Study.
Air abrasion as a caries removal technique is less aggressive than conventional techniques and is compatible for use with adhesive restorative materials. Alumina, while being currently the most common abrasive used for cutting, has controversial health and safety issues and no remineralisation properties. The alternative, a bioactive glass, 45S5, has the advantage of promoting hard tissue remin...
متن کاملPenetration of amalgam constituents into dentine.
OBJECTIVES Amalgam restorations are replaced by adhesively placed composite resin restorations at an increasing rate. After the removal of amalgam dentine often shows marked dark discoloration that is attributed to the penetration of corrosion products from overlying amalgams. It is questioned whether penetration of metals into dentine affects the dentine as a substrate for adhesive procedures....

BACKGROUND Artificial lesions produced by different protocols might directly influence the response to different remineralising treatments. This study compared the response of different artificial caries-like enamel lesions to home-care and professional fluoride based-remineralising treatments in situ. METHODS The tested demineralising protocols were methylcellulose- MC gel, polyacrylic acid ...
